I’m what you call a “learner sewer”. Or sewist. Or something. I got my very own sewing machine 4 years ago and since then I’ve made skirts, and cushions and totes and a number of other things all in the name of learning and make do and mend. I’ve attend numerous sewing classes across the capital, but just recently I ran out of time and energy to get my machine out and get making. In all this time I really though I’d found all the sewing places in London, but after a visit to the Knitting and Stitching Show last week, I was wrong. Let me introduce the gorgeousness that is Sew Over It.

Sew Over It

Sew Over It is a lovely sewing cafe based in Clapham, London. You can take over 30 classes from fifties dresses to gorgeous stuff for your own to how to read commercial patterns, get advice, get inspiration, make friends, drop in and sew or have a party (there ain’t no party like a needle and thread party). As you know we love cake here at Tea Towers, and not only can you sew to your heart’s content, you can drink tea and eat cake whilst you do it. PERFECTION.

But aside from an all round excellent sewing offer in Clapham (I’m literally booking all the classes, right now, and quitting my job to fit them all in), Sew Over It are joining the pop up trend by hosting their very own in Camden from the 29th October – 10th November. As well us just popping up and being there for you to drop by, they have different events and workshops for you to get involved in every day. From painting and printing on clothes to studding, ripping, beading and embellishing, they’ll cover all the customising workshops to revamp any wardrobe – bling night seems particularly up my street.

But it isn’t just customisation that Sew Over It will be offering during November. Oh no. In a particular stroke of genius they’ll be running specially themed Sew-inema’s (Dirty Dancing AND Grease) and even better for all the single ladies and lads a speed dating event which includes customising a tee. This is quite possibly the best crafting mashup I’ve ever come across.

I hope to be reviewing some of their especially awesome classes soon, but until then, head down to 61 Camden High Street, NW1 7JL for the Sew Over It Pop Up, and get your bead on. Or something.
